Turtle pudding!

This week we finally had time to run out for ancient Chinese herbal treat which can be roughly translated as turtle pudding or turtle jelly...

It is said to be very good for general health, but particularly for skin (probably because it is chock full of collagen). The primary components are gelatin made from turtle shells and a wide array of herbs. It is much like eating herby Jell-O. Some people prefer it to be sweetened, so it is often served with a sugary syrup. In my opinion, though, the syrup is unnecessary - it's quite tasty on its own.

Ooh, I have really been wanting to try this. Thanks for the photos! I am most intrigued. (Blogger.com, however, thinks it looks "bscuw". I don't think that is a positive thing.)
