Dushy visits!

Time to play a little catch-up. :>

This past week, Katherine and I hosted a good friend who we hadn't seen in over four years: Dushy Mendis. We met Dushy in Michigan, but she moved back to Sri Lanka soon after I first arrived in Ann Arbor (at the beginning of 2004). Our reunion was triggered when she discovered an interesting conference being held at the University of Hong Kong - all the excuse she needed to make the journey.

All three of us had to work during the week, so it wasn't as eventful as it might have been otherwise, but we definitely helped Dushy get more familiar with Hong Kong. Let's take a look...

Just before Dushy arrived last Saturday, we hosted some students from the first and second floors of our residence hall for a little "get to know the warden" brunch. I whipped up fresh waffles and crepes, Fui Fui provided entertainment.

One of the students, Kiki, was also celebrating a birthday, so we had a cake-cutting and "Happy Birthday" sing-a-long. ;)

Here we have Dushy, on her first full day, trying authentic Hong Kong congee (in Kennedy Town).

Later, we went to Central and happened to pass the Central Post Office, so we snuck in for a picture with the largest postage stamp mosaic in the world (a place we had taken Amanda a few months prior).

Then it was time for Dushy's first look at Victoria Harbour (well, from the ground anyway - she was able to spy it from her plane as well). This is taken from the Central side looking across to areas of Tsim Sha Tsui.

I'm following Katherine and Dushy through the market on Tung Choi Street (also known as "Women's Street") in Mong Kok.

Posing outside the Murray House in Stanley following a nice dinner. Hong Kong was under a high-heat warning (>= 93 degrees Fahrenheit) that day, but that didn't stop us!

We had a wonderful time and can't wait for her return! (Or, perhaps, our first visit to Sri Lanka - whichever happens first. ;>)

Hey--no one told me I was on your blog!!! It WAS a wonderful visit, and I miss you guys and Fui Fui. I think we should vote Carson as Chief Planner of an Asian reunion next year ... he seems to have half-volunteered himself already :-)
